Between the Nun's Quadrangle and the Governor's Palace

Bird Quadrangle (18KB)

This structure is at the south foot of the Pyramid of the Magician. It is recently restored and I am not sure what it is although the columns are different from anything else here... I don't believe it is part of the Quadrangle of the Birds...

The Ball Court

Halfway between the Nun's Quadrangle and the platform for the Governor's Palace is the remnants of a Ball Court. Of a more typical size than the one at Chichen Itza, it is in essentially unrestored condition.

The ring you see here is a reproduction; the original is on display in the museum here.

The House of the Turtles

On the edge of the platform of the Governor's Palace, the House of the Turtles looks back over the Nun's Quadrangle and the Pyramid of the Magician.

House of the Turtles (9KB)

The structure takes its name from the row of turtles decorating the upper overhang of the roof on all four sides. Turtles are associated with rain in the Mayan mythology so this was probably a temple for the worship of water.

House of the Turtles Back Side (11KB)

The view from the below the platform of the Governor's Palace (i.e. the structure on top of this platform is the back side of the House of the Turtles.)
