LOOKING BACK ON 1998

The angels in heaven rejoice that Mary Bales quietly passed into her Heavenly Home on September 7, 1998, after she battled cancer with hope and patience for three years. Each of her six children had been able to spend time with her during the summer and then they all gathered with their families to pay tribute to the lady who was the heart of their home with a memorial service they conducted in her honor on September 11th. Her family rejoices that she is in a better place and that she left a legacy of faith and hope and trust in God that lives on. At the same time they grieve the loss of her quiet spirit among them. They honor her tradition of keeping you posted on family activities.

Mary Ethel and Walt Gale are happily adjusting to Walter's retirement after over 30 years as a high school chemistry teacher. Mary Ethel continues to enjoy teaching her second graders on Long Island, New York. They spent a week with David and Phyllis in July.

David and Phyllis Bales are both doctors now. Phyllis was awarded her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology in June and has set up her own practice. Dr. David is the Medical Director of Medalia Health Care in Seattle. He is in contact with the University of Arkansas regarding the preservation of the journals that Mother kept for over 40 years.

Barbara and Hugh Gibson are putting their "new" old Dodge camper to good use as they explore interesting state parks in the area. Barbara celebrated the big 5-oh in November but since she works for Wal-Mart where everything is discounted, she claims to only be $49.95! Their daughter Miriah with her husband Jesse Schmidt welcomed the birth of Dakota James on January 3rd.

Mark and Janice Bales continue to be very actively involved with the Wintergreen Church of Christ near their home in Afton, Virginia, in addition to their busy lives "on the job." Mark's son Greg is a senior at Harding University and writes for the Bison, the school newspaper.

Jon and Marlene Bales enjoy life in Florida where Jon works for Motorola and Marlene designs flower arrangements for an expanding clientele. Their children, Carly, Jordan, and Hannah, all play soccer, as does Marlene.

Robin and Mark Kirk are enjoying their new home in Hudson, Ohio, where they live near lovely state parksh at provide opportunity for walking and biking. Children Ashley, Alan, and Allie enjoy the change of seasons they didn't have when they lived in Florida.

Precious in the sight of the Lord
