| HIGHLIGHTS OF 1985
January-February - Mary had two brief weekend trips to Tulsa to visit
Robin and Mark (Kirk) .. . . J.D. and Mary drove to Atlanta for a Bales family reunion and
to share in an early observance of the Bill Clarks 50th wedding anniversary. They
(J.D. and Mary) got caught in a snowstorm on the way back to Searcy.
March - Mary drove to Johnston City, Illinois, to visit with the
Gibsons, spending a weekend in St. Louis and its vicinity.
May-June - J.D., Mary, Mark, and Greg took a memorable trip to Alaska,
driving the entire length of the Alcan highway. They spent 10 days in Anchor Point, 10
days in Fairbanks, and returned part of the way by boat (from Haines to Prince Rupert,
B.C.). They were away 51/2 weeks.
July - Mary rode as far as Nashville with Robin and Mark, then flew to
New York where she joined Mary Ethel on a flight to London. They toured England and
Scotland by train and had a wonderful visit with David and Phyllis in London, while he was
waiting for orders from the U.S. Army. They are now living in Kenya where David is
involved in experimental treatments for sleeping sickness and malaria.
August - Jonathan and Marlene announced the arrival in Nashville of
Carly Jessa, on August 8.... Barbara Ann and Hugh (Gibson) brought Miriah, 14 and in the
9th grade, to Searcy to stay with J.D. and Mary while attending Harding Academy . . . .
Mark moved to Waynesboro, Virginia to teach school.
September - Mary Ethel and Walt survived the onslaught of hurricane
Gloria on Long Island, suffered property damage but no personal injury.
November - J.D. observed his 70th birthday with visits from Mary Ethel
and Walt, Robin and Mark, Jonathan, Marlene, and Carly, and the Gibsons - a really
festive time. |
