LOOKING BACK ON 1982

Mary Ethel and Walt (Gale) took a tour (by car) of the southern states in the summer, visiting friends and kinfolk in N. Carolina, Georgia, Texas, Oklahoma and Illinois.

David and Phyllis are into their second year in Saudi Arabia. They were in the States for a month while David served in the Army Reserves. Laura returned with them to spend the summer in Saudi Arabia.

Barbara Ann, Hugh and Miriah (Gibson) enjoyed visits from Jonathan and Marlene, and Mary Ethel and Walt. Barbara Ann and Miriah went with J.D. and Mary to Canada in July.

Mark, Becky, and Greg went with J.D. and Mary to Alaska in May. Mark earned his M.Ed. degree in August from Harding. Greg is in kindergarten and playing soccer. Becky has become owner and manager of a Mexican restaurant - a new and challenging experience!

Jonathan and Marlene still live and work in Nashville. They made two trips to the World's Fair, one with the Gibson's and one with Mark and Becky.

Robin and Mark (Kirk) are enjoying their own home in Tulsa after apartment living. Mark passed the CPA exams and still travels to distant cities to do audits for his accounting firm.

Grampa Smart passed away in June after a long (almost 88 years) and full life. He had been with J.D. and Mary in Searcy from June 1980.

J.D. and Mary are keeping busier than before retirement - J.D. writing, counseling in person and by long-distance telephone; Mary also writing (letters to scattered children!). They enjoyed the trip to Alaska by car, boat, train, and plane. Then came a trip to Canada for Grampa Smart's memorial service in Beamsville on July 4.

To all our friends: May the peace of God
that passes understanding abide in your
hearts now and throughout the
new year.

Blessed is every one who fears the Lord,
who walks in his ways!
You shall eat the fruit of the labor of
your hands;
you shall be happy, and it shall be
well with you.
