| Mary Ethel and Walt (Gale) spent their Summer (away from teaching
school) doing a variety of things -- bicycling, canoeing, camping, etc. They took Mary to
Vermont in October to enjoy the Fall foliage. David, Phyllis and children still live in Tacoma. David spent 6 weeks in the Summer at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D.C., making study of Tropical Diseases. Barbara Ann, Hugh, and Mariah (Gibson) live and work in Illinois. Barbara works for a nearby Montgomery Ward catalog office, is busy with civic activities, and Miriah is in the 2nd grade. Mark, Becky and Greg are in Searcy. Mark works for a local production machine shop, Becky is taking some classes at a nearby University branch besides being the only woman in an auto body shop class, and Greg is a 2-year-old charmer. |
Jonathan was married on Aug. 11 to Marlene Windsor in Nashville,
Tennessee where they live. Jonathan attends Belmont College there in addition to working.
Robin is attending Harding College, enjoying dormitory life, and even some of her classes! She worked in the summer for a local Real Estate office to make payments on her 'new' Chevette. J.D. continues to teach at Harding, and writes many hours every day. A book on Jehovah's Witnesses is at the press and others in preparation. Mary finds plenty to do at home, despite her reduced family, between trips, that is, to New York, Florida, and Canada. Grandma Smart passed away in March after a brief illness; she was almost 85, active and alert to the last. |

| Mary Ethel and Walt (Gale) live in Bay Shore, New York, where they both teach school. With bicycles, canoe, skis, tennis racquets, and camping equipment, they take advantage of all the wonderful facilities in the area in their time off. David is in Korea on a year's tour of duty as chief of General Medicine in the U.S. Army. He completed a 3-year residency in Internal Medicine in Tacoma, Washington in June. Phyllis and the children are living in Gig Harbor, while he is away. Barbara Ann, Hugh and Miriah (Gibson) live in Onarga, Illinois, where Miriah is in the 3rd grade. Barbara has started back to school, taking a course in Physiology and Anatomy at Parkland College, Champaign, Illinois, preparatory (hopefully) to becoming an Animal Health Technician.

Mark, Becky and Greg live in Searcy. Mark works in a
precision parts shop, restoring and repairing cars at home during his off times. Both Mark
and Becky are taking a course in auto body repair and painting. Jonathan and Marlene live in Nashville, Tenn., where Jonathan works and attends Belmont College, majoring in Music. They spent part of their vacation hiking in the Smoky Mountains. Robin is in her final year at Harding, living in the dormitory. She is working on a degree in Elementary Education. She was Senior representative for Homecoming in November. J.D. continues to teach and spends long hours at his office, writing. He and Mary went to Anchorage, Alaska in May for a meeting, travelling by car, train, boat and plane, visiting David and family en route. |
