| Mary Ethel and Walt (Gale) have bought a house in Bay Shore, L.I. --
the first time they have not lived in an apartment, and they are enjoying the freedom and
space. They continue to teach school -- she Kindergarten, and he High school Science. David
and Phyllis and children (pictured on the front) are stationed with the Army at
Fort Bragg, N.C. David finished his medical internship at El Paso, Texas in June, and is
now a Green Beret with the Special Forces.
Barbara Ann and Hugh (Gibson), with Miriah, have been stationed with
the Army this year. They lived in Neu Ulm, in Bavaria, and took every opportunity to see
that part of the world, including a week in London.
Jonathan is president of the Senior class at Searcy High, and Robin
is a Sophomore at Harding Academy. |
Mark and Becky have moved to the country just outside Searcy and are
learning about cooking on a wood stove. Becky is a technician at White County Memorial
Hospital, and Mark is concentrating on his senior year at Harding College.
J.D. is enjoying a year's leave of absence from teaching and is
realizing his ambition of having more time to write. Six manuscripts are at the printer's,
five of which should be out before the end of the year.
Mary continues to do the usual things, but she will never be the same
following a two-week stay in Germany, visiting Barbara and Hugh. She had never been to
Europe before, nor had she ever flown! The trip included a day in New York with Mary
Ethel, going and returning.

THOSE STILL IN SEARCY
Barbara Ann, Hugh, and Miriah (Gibson) returned from a tour of Army duty in Germany
early in the year. Hugh is back at Harding, finishing his B.A. degree in Business and
Barbara is working again for the Telephone company. Miriah keeps everyone hopping!
Mark and Becky are still living in the country at the edge of Searcy. Mark graduated
from Harding in August with a B.A. in Biology, and Becky continues to work at the local
hospital.
Robin is an 11th grader at Harding Academy. She is cheerleader and a member of the
Chorus that took a brief tour to Louisiana in October. |
THOSE AWAY FROM SEARCY
Mary Ethel and Walt (Gale) are enjoying their house on Long Island, close to the
Atlantic beaches. Both still teach school.
David, Phyllis and children have moved into a new house in N. Carolina, where David is
stationed in the Army. He has had specialized training this year in skiing and
scuba-diving for the Special Forces.
Jonathan graduated from Searcy High in May and is now attending the U. of Arkansas. He
is majoring in Music, having to work hard, but enjoying it |
J.D. and Mary continue to follow their usual schedules -- he
writing, she a little of everything! There were trips -- to Canada in June for
Grandma Smart's 80th birthday, down to New York to see the Gales, to Tampa, Florida for a
short meeting, to N. Carolina to visit David and family.
