Away from home....
MARY ETHEL AND WALT (Gale) still live on Long Island, New York. She is teaching
kindergarten for the second year, and he teaches high school science.
DAVID is in his fourth and final year in medical school at Little Rock. We must adjust
soon to having TWO Dr. Bales in the family!
BARBARA ANN AND HUGH (Gibson) have been moving with the U.S. Army, first to San
Antonio, Texas, then to Lawton, Oklahoma, and finally to Augusta, Georgia. He has trained
as an X-ray technician. |
....and at home
MARK is in his sophomore year at Harding, majoring (so far) in biology. He
worked in the summer in the great Smoky National Park.
JONATHAN is in the 10th grade, and ROBIN is in the 8th.
J.D. is continuing his usual schedule of writing, teaching, lecturing or
preaching occasionally, but mostly... writing. and MARY likewise the same routine --
cooking, typing, washing, etc. They observed their 30th wedding anniversary in 1970.

| Mary Ethel and Walt (Gale) took a fascinating camping-out tour of
these United States in their Volkswagen during the Sunmer, accompanied by their Siamese
cat! They returned in the Fall to teaching on Long Island, New York. David and
Phyllis were married on August 22. David graduated from Medical School in Little Rock
in June, and is interning in the Army at Beaumont Army Hospital in El Paso, Texas.
Barbara Ann and Hugh (Gibson) are apart this holiday season while Hugh serves
tbe U.S. Army as an x-ray technician in Europe. Barbara is living in Searcy, caring for
Miriah Ann, born on August 7 in Augusta, Georgia.
Mark and Becky were married on June 3 in Searcy, then spent the Summer working
in the Smoky Mountains National Park. Mark is a Junior at Harding College. |
Jonathan, at 16, is a Junior at Searcy High School, and Robin,
at 14, is a Freshman at Harding Academy. J. D. spent several unexpected weeks
in the hospital, first following surgery in July, then in October-November with pulmonary
problems (this time in the Baptist Hospital in Memphis). He is recovering satisfactorily -
enough to read proof on the latest book - Modernism: Trojan Horse in the Church.
Mary gradually became accustomed to being a Grandmother, but finds that with
only two children left at home, there still aren't enough hours in the day.
The entire family is profoundly grateful for the concern and interest demonstrated by
friends everywhere when J.D. became ill. We wish we could thank everyone personally. |
