Of course there is a lot of spectacular scenery that doesn't require ropes or training to access. While I basically only had one free day to explore (between the climbing school and the ascent) during the week I was there, I did take a couple of short excursions that should give some idea about the contrasting experiences available for those willing to stray off of the beaten path a little...

For a map and more complete listing of day hikes with a short description check here...

Two Oceans Lakes

This is an easy trail that doesn't require a lot of climbing and has some nice vistas (like the photo above). In contrast to the long views over the lake, there are a lot of nice wildflowers to be enjoyed. Take a look here to get an idea.

This lake gets its name from the original belief that the continental divide ran through this lake although more recent mapping indicates that this is not the case (but it makes a good story anyway!).

Hidden Falls / Inspiration Point

From the visitor's center at Jenny Lake you can either hike around the shore of the lake or take a shuttle boat which costs a few bucks but cuts off a few miles of walking and makes this hike thoroughly accessible.

Other Stuff...

Chapel of the Transfiguration

Just north of the Moose entrance of the park is a short side road that goes past the Chapel of the Transfiguration to William Menor's homestead cabin on the snake river. Here there is a replica of the old ferry that you can take across the river to Dormans. The restored buildings feature photos and information about the early settlers to this area and so it's worth a stop.

There is also an old fashion period store which is mostly for display but they do have some items for sale. (I enjoyed a locally bottled huckleberry soda there...)
