Although I personally find Acapulco a little too urban for my recreational tastes, as a resort it certainly delivers as advertised.  Broad beaches, Pacific surf ranging from calm to thundering, restaurants, nightclubs, and plenty of touristic attractions from shopping to jetski's to parasailing, Acapulco offers the full range of diversions.  (This was the view from my hotel window.)

Although the high-rise hotels lining the beach are reminiscent of other destinations such as Cancun or Miami Beach, the surrounding environment is dramatically different.  With a backdrop of green, mountainous terrain the view from most any hotel room will be an outstanding vista.

The hills surrounding Acapulco also provide the setting for one of the locale's signature events, the demonstration of diving expertise off of the high cliffs outside the city.  While the demonstrations take place daily, we went at night.  They cliffs were lit as the divers climbed to their perches but the finale of the act is when a diver leaps from the highest point of the cliffs in the dark with two torches in his hand which he releases at the last second before he hits the water.  Impressive and definately worth seeing...

Of course the primary activity after dark around is the legenary nightlife.  For those with the stamina, there are plenty of outlets for your energy (and your money!) from dusk till dawn, with most any place worth going to not even heating up till well past midnight.

> This is the plaza in front of the cultural center...

< The surf picks up a little as the tide comes in but it doesn't seem to slow down the jet-skiers...

Sun, surf, activities for day and night, plenty of fun but maybe not so much rest... If that's your idea of a vacation, this is the place...

A lone guy with a guitar strolls along the beach as the sun sinks behind the hills...
