The area surrounding the Plaza has more
churches, cathedrals (see also San Franciscan
Monastery), shopping and places to eat. This picture is a monument of some sort
looking back over a pedestrian plaza towards the Lima Cathedral. |

Churches & Cathedrals

<< Another shot of the main Cathedral looking off to mountains in the distance. There
has been a cathedral in this spot since 1535 but this structure has been standing since
the mid 1700's.(The previous structure was destroyed in an earthquake.)
The cathedral is also well known as the final resting place for the remains of
Francisco Pizarro.

These are a couple of structures in the surrounding area... << Not sure about
this one but I think it is Palacio de Torre Tagle.
>> This is the is the San Pedro church.

More Politics
The political process is certainly alive and well in Peru despite the
apparent chaos surrounding the ouster of Fujimori and turmoil at the top levels of the
government. Although this picture is not very clear, the spirit of Che Guevara survives as
is indicated by this public demonstration by his followers. This picture was taken late in
the day at Plaza San Martin.
