Trail Day 2.gif (2289 bytes)

This is the day where our luck with the weather abruptly came to an end. Starting with mist and drizzling rain in the morning, by the time we were approaching the Pacamayo Campsite there was a steady and heavy downpour. By the time we broke for lunch at Runcu Raccay everyone was soaked to the bone. Things pretty much cleared up by the end of the day, but for those in the group who were having trouble with the strain of the hike anyway, the rain didn't help.

Here, Day Two is split into three pages: the Dead Woman's Pass - the first pass and the highest point on the trail (4200 meters); the Pacamayo valley and the Runcu Raccay ruins; and, the Sayac Marca ruins.

While the distance hiked on the second day is roughly equivalent to the distance on the first day, it somehow doesn't seem as bad. While you do have some uphill stretches they are not as drawn out as the first day and there's a lot of downhill to go along with it.

But to start out your day, there is another 600 meter vertical climb to reach the Abra de Huarmhuanusca - the Dead Woman's Pass...
