The Parliament Building from the Danube River

The Parliament Building

Built on the banks of the Danube River, the Parliament building commands the skyline from both sides of the river.  The prominence of the central dome is in fact built into law as no building in Budapest may exceed 96 meters in height - the height of the central cupola.  Although the architecture has a renaissance appearance, the building was in fact completed only in 1904.

The Lower Chamber of Parliament

The Lower Chamber of Parliament... Note the elaborate murals which surround the chamber.  The Upper Chamber of Parliament was in session when we visited and we were not able to see it.

A close-up of some of the stained glass that permiates the building.  The three dimensional effect is striking. ¯
