Fall '98 GOLD World Tour! |
These pages contain mostly photos (and a little bit of actual content!) from some nine days spent in Budapest in July of 1998. I've limited the number of photos on each page to four or five and hopefully I've hit upon a good compromise between image size and quality and download time. Page through or choose the links below to go directly to any page.
Before this visit it might not have occurred to me to plan a trip around Budapest as a destination, but after spending some time there the place definitely rates both a recommendation and a future return trip. In short, it's a great place with beautiful architecture and excellent food; it is relatively easy to get around in, with a lot to do and see within walking distance of the central district. In the summertime at least, there are plenty of cultural events to take advantage of, from classical music and opera to folk music and dance. Although it has not been that many years since the Communist domination of Hungary you are hard pressed to find much evidence of it since most of the public statuary of that era has been removed. But, most of the conveniences of capitalism are now within easy reach, with a proliferation of ATM's that makes the exchange of currency convenient and not subject to black market influence. Despite most modern conveniences, Hungary still seems relatively unspoiled (in comparison to western Europe) and things are not so expensive with plenty of reasonably priced restaurants around.
I have higher resolution copies of all these photos that I would be glad to email out
if you see anything you like. (By the way, all the photos here ARE mine!) Enjoy...
and give me any comments, requests or feedback via the email link below.
